• The volunteer workforce of the Muskingum Valley Garden Society is energetic, fun and dedicated.  There are lots of different opportunities ranging from helping in the nursery to conducting tours at Mission Oaks Gardens. Anyone wishing to become a part of the volunteer staff at the Garden is welcomed and encouraged to do so. Previous horticulture experience of any sort is a bonus, but is definitely not a requirement.
  
  Volunteer at the gardens and join more than 50 Muskingum Valley Garden Society volunteers who provide hundreds of hours of service each week, making the various programs possible.

Our Volunteer program began February 2010 and we are moving forward this year with new ideas and opportunities. We have approximately 30-40 volunteers. Last year we held a pruning workshop for interested parties. There will be a container workshop planned for April, and we will invite our pruning group back to help again starting in March. There will be additions to the perennial beds at Mission Oaks Gardens, self- guided tour brochures available at our entrances by early summer, as well as a guided Spring tour in late May. We have had many inquiries about our volunteer program and hope to have a meeting in March for those interested in joining us. Dates have not been determined at this time. Those will be available at the symposium.  Becoming a volunteer offers the individual an opportunity to learn about perennials, annuals, trees and shrubs, placement, maintenance and selection of material. Projects downtown and on Maple Ave.  continue to wow the community and bring a sense of ‘green’ pride to Zanesville as a horticultural community amidst the concrete and steel. The volunteers will be offered incentives for their hours to include side trips to other surrounding areas of interest for inspiration and ideas. As our group continues to expand, we will be able to provide other nature activities to the gardens. Birding and photography have been requested.
